Week Four of the Los Angeles College Pro City League came to close in exciting fashion on Sunday night. It was one of the most frantic finishes that you will see as the Young Guns (Pruitt, Young and Willis) made a dramatic late comeback that resulted in a win at the buzzer.

Emanuel Willis

This was the first time I have seen Willis play in person. He is listed at 6-8, for the time being I think he is closer to 6-7. Willis originally signed with Southern Miss in 2003, but he failed to qualify and ended up last year at Hargrave Military Academy. He didn't put up huge numbers for the #1 prep team in the nation, but sparked high major looks with his play in workouts prior to the season. He chose USC of Cincinnati, Virginia and Virginia Tech among others. He came to Hargrave as a athletic defensive force, he had 99 blocks in 15 games as a junior in high school, but worked hard to improve his perimeter and ball handling skills to become more of a combo forward. If Sunday was any indication this work has paid off. He has been compared to Kenyon Martin and Jason Thomas (Texas) and those are good comparisons. He definitely an energy guy who plays hard at both ends and mixes things up. One knock on Willis in the past has been playing hard on every possession, but we didn't see any signs of that on Sunday.

Willis announced his presence by completing a sick windmill dunk on his first attempt in warmups. Nick Young was speechless and couldn't stop laughing and talking about it. Willis and Young instantly hit it off. The funny thing is that a half hour before the game started it looked like they didn't even know who each other were. Willis started the game on the bench. When he came in late in the 2nd half he quickly blocked two shots and changed another. He never got matched up with McMillian and for the most part guarded the other team's small forward so was on the wing a lot. Because of that he wasn't able to get the rebound and block numbers he might of been able to put up if he was stationed inside more. He gets into the defensive stance every time down, but has a tendency to get too close to the players he is guarding making it easy to go by him. He just needs to adjust and move back a tad because with his long arms he will have no problem changing shots if they try and shoot over him.

Willis took his first shot of the game in the 2nd quarter when he got the ball behind the NBA three point line and took a couple of dribbles and step backed his defender and nailed a college 3. This type of offensive game I wasn't expected from what was classified as a defensive athlete. Later in the half he got the ball on the right block, he took his time and faced up and nailed a nice 15 footer. He is smooth shooting the ball and isn't a mechanical type combo forward like USC has had in the past with Dupree and currently Nick Curtis. His shooting touch looked pretty good. He stepped up to the free throw line in the first half and nailed both shots.

Willis athletically is a freak. He will be in the Dupree and Lorenzo Orr class of dunkers quite quickly once the season begins. He had one play in the 2nd half where he got the ball near the free throw line and took one dribble and exploded and almost dunked over two people. With Willis and Young we have some guys who can throw the Jeff Trepagnier backdoor lob to for each buckets. Willis seemed to look more comfortable facing the basket even when he was in the post. One move he tried to make with his back to the basket he got caught between two players and turned it over. Late in the game Willis hit an NBA 3 from the top of the key to cut the Top Prospects lead to 1 point. He was rewarded by being taking out of the game and watching the last 38 seconds from the bench. Gotta love the coaching in this league.

So what can you tell after one game, a little but not enough. Was Willis just feeling it shooting the ball on Sunday or can he hit the 3 with regularity? I liked what I saw and think he definitely came play some minutes at small forward and power forward next year. Nice opening effort for him.

15 points, 6-8 field goals, 2-2 free throws, 1-1 three point field goal, 2 blocks, 5 boards

Nick Young

Started fast scoring 11 points in the first quarter. Nothing we hadn't seen already this summer. He drilled an NBA 3 to start his scoring and then went to work off the dribble. He had a better game on Saturday, but you always have to be ready for him to explode and put a ton of points on the board really quick. He got hit in the face on a drive in the 2nd half and then struggled to shoot the ball. At times when he doesn't get the ball a lot, thanks to Joe "I don't pass the ball" Frazier, he tends to shoot a lot of jump shots and sometimes gets away from what he does best. Break down his defender and get to the basket or pull up and drill jumpers. His dunk in the final seconds gave his team the first lead of the 2nd half. After Top Prospects countered with a bucket of their own, Nick tried to go coast to coast in 8 seconds, but gave the ball up. The shot was missed, but Gabe Pruitt was there for the game winner as the buzzer sounded. Nick had a large contingent there watching including his dad, who was wearing his USC basketball shirt.

22 points, 9-17 field goals, 0-2 free throws, 1-5 three point field goals, 7 boards

Gabe Pruitt

Gabe won't say it, but I'm sure he just wishes he could play the point for this team instead of playing on the wing and never getting the ball. Unlike Young who demands the ball, Pruitt seems too content to watch others. He hasn't shot the ball well at all this summer. He started the game Sunday 0 of 7 from the field, before coming up big at both ends of the floor late to help his team pull out a win. His drive and lay-up cut the lead to one late and then his tip in at the buzzer gave his team the win. Gabe definitely is better in an organized type of game. Hopefully he will get more of an opportunity to showcase his skills this summer, but with Frazier dominating the ball it probably won't happen.

4 points, 2-9 field goals, 0-1 three point field goals, 4 assists, 6 boards, 2 steals

Jeff McMilian

Jeff is a big boy. Looks to have put on some more weight, but is moving well. He had a rebound follow up dunk in the first half when he got higher off the floor than I can ever remember. He still gets a little too passive at times when he gets the ball in the post. When he goes at his defender and uses his strength he either scores or gets fouled. He needs to develop that killer attitude that no one can stop me. He has developed a nice right hand to finish when he is inside.

16 points, 7-10 field goals, 2-2 free throws
